This past Wednesday evening, I spent the hours of 11pm until 11:30pm playing bass with Ife of Sweetie at Black Betty. Was it fun? Yes. Was I perfect? No, I made a few mistakes. Will I be playing another show soon and reaching out to lots of artists for potential collabs? Hell yes. The stage at Black Betty is rather small so I spent most of the time obsessed with not messing up or crashing into Ife. I probably could have looked out at the audience a little more, as the only reason I have ever wanted to play shows in NYC is to interact with different audiences. Interaction usually involves eye contact. Next time. This is a cool quote: "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones that you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain I called my dad before the show and he told me, "Mija don't worry about anything. The worst thing that could happen is they throw you off the stage." Aw, thanks dad for your messed up yet helpful advice. It worked. <3 BONUS: A friend shared this hilarious video with me because I am known for loving performance clips, Muppets and Rita Moreno. Enjoy!
