So recently I have become obsessed with Squidbillies. Through a rogue connection at work (not really, but it's fun to think that) I've acquired the first season on DVD. The Adult Swim site describes the series thusly:
A family of inbred squids tear the ass out of all creation in the North Georgia mountains. It's not all drinking, brawling and reckless gunplay.
But it really is. And this is what makes it so awesome. It's wickedly clever and - dare I say - genius satire of family life holds me under it's spell. Plus it's just gross enough to keep me giggling like a twelve year old boy.
I also not ashamed to say that, thanks to this same rogue connection, I am now the proud owner of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. It's about a young man with a peculiarly strong sense of smell who ends up going bananas while on the quest to make the perfect scent. I saw this in a theater, where at some point during the movie I'm pretty sure I whispered "this is effed up"... ***SPOILER ALERT***
It has the most disturbing and (oddly) boring orgy scene I've ever endured.
Finally, I am looking forward to seeing the apocalyptic treat Southland Tales next week, as The Rock will undoubtedly take his shirt off. Oh yeah, and Richard Kelly hasn't directed anything since Donnie Darko and I am curious to see what he serves up.
