Over the next few weeks I'm going to be making some furniture purchases for my "new" apartment. It's still new to me because a) I don't have any furniture except for a craigslist couch and a tiny TV and b) it's my first apartment without any roommates. The plus side is I have had ample time to figure out what I want, what I can/can't afford, etc. It's also given my friend Julia lots of opportunities to rag about my questionable style; It's generally hit or miss. She told me she would never come over if I bought this for my pad. I wasn't even considering it but now I want to buy it just for fun. It has a certain regal sensibility to it. I've talked to a lot of people and everyone keeps pointing me to Ikea. Personally, I'm more a fan of cb2.com but they are a little out of my price range. I figure I can get a few affordable Ikea items and some more expensive things elsewhere. So, tomorrow after my class at The New School I am taking the little free bus to an Ikea somewhere in Jersey with my friend Angie Thea, along with my camera full of pictures of my empty apartment, list of measurements and a tape measurer. I like Ikea's UTBY kitchen island . I am going to use this as additional counter/buffet space for guest food and the place I eat quickly when I don't want to mess up the real dining table. It could also be the place that dates hang out while they watch me mix drinks. On the other hand, I love this more (sigh)...but the Ikea version is less expensive. I'll be taking a lot of pictures at Ikea tomorrow.
